Mourning period. She was England's longest reigning monarch. And the DS's most important tool to keep the Brits down. This is symbolic is other ways too.
She was head of the Committee of 300/the Olympians (all of her family included) She was more than just a figurehead.

Princess Di definitely had an impact on society. We'll see.
Not that most brits will truly care. There are only a few million royalosts in the 70m pop
Darnkess might be more than transposed letters. Darn can be darning a sock but it's also a euphemism for damn. Kess is a game card of some sort, described as a legendary wizard (Kess, dissident mage). See the site, mtgmintcard.com.
Not positing any theories. I will leave that to the experts, but I've yet to come across any explanations for the word.
DARN-kess definition = What the enemy is about to experience. Dark to light. Darkness only exists in the absence of the light. They will rue the day and wish they had never entered the DARK-ness to begin with, thus the "Darn"-kess because they kissed the devil and lost...DARN-it!

Might be worth a read. Check out the reader comments near the bottom of the amazon book review page. Was this FORESHADOWING?
Q did self describe as "wizards and warlocks" at some point iirc
I just did another search and Kess is from a Dominera game called The Gathering. So that fits.
My thoughts as well.
