Jar Jar has his role. He made watching Episode 1 tolerable to my three year old, so that the older kids who actually like Star Wars could watch it together.

Agreed.

To be fair, I loved Jar Jar as a kid and still sort of have a soft spot for him and don't find him too terrible/unbearable. But I can also see how others find him extremely annoying at times.
