Great Chicago Fire and that year 1871 when President Grant sold our country out.
1871 The Great Chicago Fire kills an estimated 300 people and destroys over 4 square miles (10 square km) of buildings and the original Emancipation Proclamation
Sgt. Alvin York Kills 25 German Soldiers
1918 American soldier Alvin York single-handedly attacks German gun nest, killing at least 25 and capturing 132 Germans
Other events: October 8th was the date of Don Larson's perfect game (World Series) in 1956. Also a wildfire struck Peshtigo, Wisconsin in 1871. This was the deadest wildfire in history and killed up to 2,500 people.

Over 100 years later the balls deluxe of Alvin York's action continues to defy belief.
Just the idea of capturing 32 enemy soldiers single-handedly. WTF? Now add another 100. WTF???!!?!!?! I'm lucky if I can capture a tiny lizard running around in my house.
I once killed and entire village of ants. I also snuck into a yellow jacket compound at dusk and sprayed a stream of Termidor SC into their entrance in the ground, escaped then a week later they were gone. I tell you war is hell. :)
God makes unlikely heroes out of the feeble that defy logic. Audie Murphy another one.
These stand out. October 8

That's when baseball was great. Also isn't that interesting aside from the Chicago fire you had that wild fire in 1871.
