Dude, one of my best friends is a veteran, and he's depressed as fuck right now. I worry about him.
...worry...
...and pray....
Bug the ever loving shit out of him. Constantly. Ask him to hang out as much as you can.
The problem with some vets is the get it in their heads that they’re gonna do it, and it seems more correct to do it, since they committed to it, than to be talked down.
I am so sorry about your good friend. It is difficult to watch a close friend walk through those very troubling times. You feel so helpless.
I'd like to recommend you take a look at this Houston area organization. This is an excellent place for veterans when they get in that dark place. It is NOT affiliated with the government/VA. Your friend will be around other veterans that have survived the PTSD battle. I believe that it is centered in the Christain faith.
As I understand, if your friend will just call Camp Hope they will get them to the facility. There will be NO CHARGE to the veteran for the entire program. The program requires a 6 month commitment.

I hope your friend will call. God bless. I wish you both the best.
He needs to go to the VA and get it documented so they can help him out. Disability benefits arent a cure but they definitely help. Reddit veterans benefits has a nice place for him when hes ready to take the plunge.
Money doesnt fix everything but if he got his issues from the military then they need to compensate him for it. o7
He's got full disability already. I think he just needs to be around people outside his circle more, and socialize.
Good for him with the disability! Its tough to want to socialize when you have those internal battles often in your head. You feel like you lose connection with everyone, like there is less in common than before. Its a tough battle either way but I hope he finds the strength to heal and enjoy life here.
Talk too him in a calm AND gentle way, and tell him about the VET Centers that are opened in ALL States...there should be one near or in the city where you live...IF he wants to talk too someone, tell him that the counselors there that will help...EVEN on EMERGENCY NOTICE...I know because I have been at one for the last 6 yrs...PTSD.
NOTE: HIS mental health should come first and get him what he needs, the ONLY thing he has to present is his DD-214 or MILITARY ID!!! The money can come later but first he needs to go through this counseling foremost AND THEN he can handle the hassle of getting his benefits...
Will pray for BOTH of you...you are a good friend to be worried...Thank you, from a Veteran!!!
