Why ? I thought he was supposed to be a good guy
If God is love, then connecting fear to love doesn't make sense
I'm not so sure we have an accurate grasp of his true nature - he seems pretty hands-off to me. Like Hey I made you, gave you a good brain, you figure out your own problems.
I see no evidence of his directly meddling in the affairs of human beings. Zero.
Hence we still have a million problems, starvation, poverty, etc. We refuse to solve our own problems, and he ain't doing it for us.

Those who’s eyes are closed to God will never see the wonderful things he’s doing. The way that only he can move hearts. I could give a personal and ongoing example, but would be far too long to write up. Basically a rando giving us a new church building in exchange for our building.
