At first I believe the Russian public didn't quite understand the gravity of the situation in Ukraine. As a result they were understandably skeptical. As time went on though, they could see what the West was trying to do. A lot of this was laid down beforehand as a result of the 'COVID' pandemic. Their experience with it and Russia's own version of Operation Warp Speed, they started to put it all together with the American bio-labs in Ukraine being exposed. The people are now seeing what is at stake for Russia. So yes, the people are moving to defend the Russian Federation from NATO's proxy war in Ukraine.
Undoubtedly, those with relatives in the Donbass were getting the ground truth from there. And when the Ukrainian videos surfaced with the Azov militants knee-capping and throat-slitting Russian POWs, the public reaction was intense. I think they fully understand what is at stake---at least those not seduced by western media.
