I had to learn this word for word in AP History. I can still recite it 40 years later. Ive tried to live my life by the meaning of these words. Teddy was one of my heroes. The last few years Ive had to rethink a bit. Still havent reached a conclusion. Maybe because I dont want to or am not ready yet. I have a difficult time emotionally and spiritually researching the other side. But I no longer push my love for Teddy on others.
Due to the Awakening, I've spent a lot of time thinking about the subject of 'losing heroes'...
What I've come up with is this: If a person (or entity, or subject) once filled you with a good feeling, a feeling that made you 'aspire to be better' - then hold on to that feeling.
If that person (or entity, or subject) is later found to be a fraud, that does not invalidate the underlying ideal that you aspired to.
Someone may have lied and tried to attach that ideal to a fraud, but the ideal itself is still true.
Live it out.
