Sorry, but I think this is a dumb position to take. One of the reasons I am so successful is because my parents let me use a computer when I was really young.
Should a kid have limited apps and firewalled internet? Absolutely.
Should a kid have limited access, and a time limit to use the cell phone? Again, absolutely.
But to get rid of all of it is going to hinder their production in society. I know a fantastic kid, and he is a beast when it comes to programming languages. I couldn't imagine if his genius would have flourished the same without the exposure to technology, and I'm humble enough to know I don't have all the answers for him.
I'm sure things are different now, my first computer had a DOS prompt, there were 3 games installed (Tetris, Prince of Persia, and Oregon Trail), my parents essentially let me use it, and since they knew as little about computers beyond Word processing, they told me to "figure it out".
That was an attitude that I applied to windows (which I still feel is a GUI over DOS, at least at 3.1).
Now the circumstances are different, it's very easy to use a computer to learn little, so, IMO, kids should be more guided in their use of computers.
Same shit. Computers have been tracking your ass since Windows ME, and they've only got worse since then. You think Windows 10 and 11 aren't corporate tracking devices?
And if you try to pull a Linux card on me, I'ma laugh.
Edit: Why downvote me? I am right. Pull out of your cognitive dissonance and look it up.
Linux is a free OS system. It is more secure, but if computers make you angry, it's not going to be as easy to use as Windows in the long run, as it can require a lot of text console commands when things don't work out of the box.
So if OP played "a Linux card", that would be them replying "Oh, but I'll use Linux instead."
That would be laughable - to know Linux, but to not know your home computer tracks you.
It would be like someone talking about tearing an engine apart to one up you in conversation after they stripped all the bolts.
This is the point. Kids today are pointing and clicking icons. That is not what we did in the 80's and 90's we were typing out pages of code to make a primative picture or whatever. I remember once spending the entire day remapping the bitmaps of the system font so I could use typed letters in a grid of 9 to represent a car that would move about. It was only slightly better than "Night Driver"
I would have no qualms about giving a kid a desktop computer if only the internet wasn't total CANCER. Tablets and phones are like feeding teets, whereas a computer is like a farm.
Anyway, everything is cancer now. Everything is degenerate and damaging. Where is the good stuff. I really think under 21s should not even USE the open internet AT ALL (there should be a prison-garden internet for kids that resembles the mid 1990's less the porn and p2p comms)

Man, I remember the days when you had to "be smart" to use a computer too. Lol.
Did NOT say computer. Said with a "SCHMARDT Phone" / NSA / Corporate tracking device.

Including this comment. Fucking Christ...
So your friend is a robot? Cool
No, I stand by what I said.
It’s like people forgot there was a time when an iPhone didn’t exist
Yes a flip phone that only calls and texts is fine
Kid also has a college savings from the work he's done online, and already has a resume.
I bet you're not half as cool now, and you weren't back then either.
Maybe if you stop treating kids like morons, and give them the proper supervision, they too can flourish into geniuses by our standards.
I get it though, complaining is easier, and more important. This new generation is going to knock you on your ass, Boomer.
Boomer? Isn’t that a libtard word?
And nice username - quite the metamorphosis from your last comment! Lol
I'll accept it. History has already proven your stance to be incorrect and antiquated.
