This was super common in 2020, but haven't heard about it anymore. From first hand what I was told by a family member, there was a person in the hospital whose job it was to negotiate with families. They started out with an offer of $3,500 to "help pay funeral expenses" if the family ok'd listing Cov as the cause of death. That was the initial offering though, and if you held out you could get it up to $5k.
