Ok, I like food shows. I use them to have background noise and maybe learn a thing or two about cooking. It always seemed benign enough for tv …
But tonight as I was folding laundry, S42, E1 of Chopped Kitchen was on in the background. One of the mystery basket items for the desert round was chocolate covered crickets. For an episode dedicated to vegetarian cooking…
Where they already trying to preprogram us in cooking shows? Last I understood biology, crickets are protein, and although an insect, wouldn’t you still consider them a meat protein source?
Or are they preparing us for zbugs?
Left is about relativism whether moral or with words/meanings. By no means are crickets considered a vegetable. Now they may be defining vegetarian as not “animal” and an insect isn’t an animal. Devil is in the details
I think that's how "plant based" came into use.
Uhg, sorry, didn’t check spelling for my title :-/
Vegetarian…
I'm vegetarian.
Crickets are animals, even when covered in chocolate.
Never really got into Chopped, Hell's Kitchen was more my speed.
I don't think insects are vegetarian, they're arthropods so still considered animals.
Yes, thank you for checking my thoughts - I should have gone back to biology 101 before I asked tue question, but you are correct, insects, specifically crickets, are considered an “animal” …!

I personally wouldn’t consider an insect an animal, but apparently it is. So I wonder if I should write FoodTV and ask them to to do some ‘splainin? 😂🤷♀️
It’s honestly not where my efforts are - but just being curious has given us all a biology lesson tonight :-)

That would be an interesting letter to FoodTV. 🐸
I'm fairly certain that if 100 people on the street were asked if insects are animals, 99 would say no. Other than people with an interest in Taxonomy, it's not much of a fact worth knowing.
Probably 50 of those people would agree that chocolate is an element on the Periodic Table. And they have my full support.🍫
because they are bad for you.
Because these people are stupid.
How dare you question tHe sCiEnCe!!
Definitely an element! I’d also like to say dark chocolate should be close to the base of the food pyramid if I am allowed to be in charge :-)
