Yeah because shotguns are affective at armor piercing at 300 meters.
Anything the government has at their disposal, the citizen should be able to have at his/hers disposal for the safeguarding of liberty.
That 2nd line is not said enough.
You might want to check out some of the custom sabot shell videos on youtube.
Saw one go through 3 layers of kevlar vest and trash the dummy behind them and then cut the post that was holding it all up in half.
Realistically speaking, in an urban/suburban environment, how many engagements would be at 300 meters? the crushing majority would be in the 20 to 50 meter range I think.
And at that range, even buckshot could be lethal/disabling to someone wearing something like a level 4 plate, might not pierce it but the absurd force would break many ribs I bet.
But yeah I get what you're saying, my post was not meant to be taken seriously.
With the spread you are also more likely to find gaps in the plate
Eh, with a smooth bore it doesn't spread all that much for quite a distance if I understand correctly, I've seen some tests being made, up to like 40-50 feet all shot was still contained on a human sized target
Interestingly with a rifled barrel the spread was way more severe, which kinda makes sense, the shot will come out spinning and thence spread more.
Plus there's always slugs :) they may not penetrate the armor, but one does not get up after getting hit with a 1 ounce slug to the chest regardless I bet, the amount of force is just crazy.
I've seen what a bean bag round can do, I do not want to get in the way of a metal slug!
All that is necessary, is to "stall" the pump. Pretty sure the slug will fit the bill, maybe not 100% of the time; but I will not volunteer to prove the case.
Typical spread is ~10" at 20 yards for 12 Ga. 00 buckshot. See https://www.theboxotruth.com/threads/the-box-o-truth-20-buckshot-patterns.327/
for sauce.
