The newscast mentions a "green-hydrogen or battery-powered" option. I can see a hydrogen-powered fuel cell giving decent power and range with much less weight than full battery-electric.

Last time hydrogen and air travel were combined in public air travel it didn't seem to end well...

Air NZ may even get it done by 2026 but without any real life long term safety data, flying 40,000 feet with new tech must be a concern. Not poo pooing hydrogen power, just not comfortable without real flight time.
