It is larger than a group of people, it's a religious philosophy. It's an allegiance to a people that hold specific beliefs and ideals above others. At the core and central hub of these people, their religious history welded to the location of Israel.
So yeah, the fringe "norm" bagel-shop-jews might not be the same level of malicious, but in some way they do connect back (via allegiance) to those that do have deeper malicious intent
I have a friend who is a regular Jew. He's an accountant (hilariously stereotypical). He doesn't know jack shit about shit. But like you mention, his father just so happens to be co founder of one of the largest law firms in Israel, whom represents many, many high ranking members of the Israeli government and his grandmother is a well known person in Israel of extreme wealth.
The connects are there, indeed.
