Trump was elected a 4 year term
-
Joe Biden “won” after election night in 2020.
-
Last states were certified some week or two later (I believe Wisconsin or Michigan, Georgia, and Pennsylvania were the states in Limbo) so let’s push the “confirmed win” out a couple of weeks from Election Night. (This couple weeks will be important later)
-
If Trump were to announce tonight that he would be running in 2024, then that would be under the 2 year mark from where Biden was “confirmed winner”.
-
BUT, if Trump announces it LATER, then that would fall OVER that 2 year mark, thus ALLOWING Trump to potentially finish these remaining less than 2 years AND be technically allowed to run again.
-
But if Trump announced to today or sooner, then he would technically be conceding to THIS CURRENT 2020 TERM and then running again in 2024. And if he concedes this election now by announcing his 2024 run, then he wouldn’t be able to fill in the 2 years if need be.
-
Flip side. If he DID announce his run today, (basically conceding to 2020) and fraud was found and he would be reinstated as president, he would only serve these remaining 2 years and not be able to run in 2024.
-
so it’s best he holds out to AFTER a full 2 year mark to not risk conceding 2020 but also be eligible to state that he’s running in 2024 without technically conceding 2020
Wow, what a mouthful! I hope you guys understand my theory haha
Because an individual cannot serve 3 terms. If Trump were to get reinstated as president today, then he would be finishing off this remaining term and would not be able to announce a 2024 run. And what happened between today and Election Day 2020 is lost… basically water under the bridge. If he were to announce a run for 2024 today then he would be conceding to 2020. Wait 2 weeks, state the run for 2024 all while potentially filling in the remaining under 2 years stolen term AND being able to run again.
Again, it’s a long shot hence why it’s a theory
You didn't answer why announcing a 2024 run means he concedes 2020.
Because let’s say for example there was some way Trump were to be reinstated some time after the 2 years, he would finish off that unconceded term of an illegitimate president AND be able to run for 2024. If he were to announce a run for 2024, he would indirectly be conceding his 2020 term, and this is relevant because if something was found, Biden is deemed illegitimate, and Trump had conceded, then a special election would be needed rather than just putting Trump in there to finish off the remaining 2 years… because he conceded.
But if he waits to after 2 years, he can technically just finish off the illegitimate term since he didn’t conceded, and be able to run again
You cannot do 3 terms. You can do 2 terms, and you can finish off a term if less than 2 years remain… so technically one can be in office for up to 10 years, if not conceded
Again, this is just my theory
I’ve seen this a couple of times tonight. Seems like cherry picking an announcement as the “aha” moment. I mean arguments could be made that leaving the whitehouse is conceding, saying “President” before “Biden” is conceding, basically anything that he’s done could be taken as conceding. There’s nothing special about him announcing a run on this or that date that would make it a concession or not.
“There’s nothing special about him announcing a run on this or that date that would make it a concession or not”
Announcing a run for 2024 indirectly implies a loss for 2020, which I think would be conceding since someone cannot run for 3 terms. I believe timing is key here
