I disagree heavily with this message, when just taken on face value. Friendship most definitely has survival value. The second part is right, of course. So...
Is this meme anti friendship? Why? What do you anons think is the purpose of this meme? Is it maybe made to resonate with the anti social types? People without friends?
Seems like it’s more so saying. You don’t need friends to survive. Which on its face is a true statement. A human can survive on their own without friends, art, and philosophy. Friends in a survival situation can make it perhaps easier. But strictly speaking it’s not necessary to survive.
But having friends can make the act of surviving have meaning beyond simply not dying.
The quote probably looses most of it’s impact if your naturally extroverted and make friends and acquaintances with ease. You’ll place a higher value on it. Meanwhile someone whose more introverted doesn’t place anywhere near as a high a value on seeking out human company.
Quite a few of the early writers of the mid-late 19th and early 20th century. Were scarred by various events. Frequently Armed conflict. CS Lewis himself saw action in WW1. One of the outcomes being they lost friends and acquaintances fairly consistently. Necessitating reminders that friends are necessary and withdrawing isn’t the answer.
First, thank you for the serious reply. I appreciate that. Secondly, I agree and that's sort of what I was thinking. I guess it rubs me as some kind of propaganda that's focused on the friendless and it just feels a bit slimy to me. Like it's specifically taking advantage of and meant to resonate with incels.
Its a meme that was loaded into a meme cannon and aimed with precision at a target and with a specific purpose. Also it involves a quote by C.S. Lewis.
I thank God for all the good people on here and the few I meet who are awake. Very encouraging to know we are not alone.
My friends are super important to me, because none of my family will survive the first week.
My family will be first in line for the chip imbed and the cattle car boarding.
Thank you for this fren.
Friendship is the foremost of pleasures, according to Epicurus, as it’s “stationary” whereas good food, or good wine, “retreat” upon your approach.
That's damned beautiful
gotta love the Pepe roasting the rat!
