Edit: Looking for some advice again, too please. She was told she has high cholesterol and was prescribed Crestor but this is giving me a bad feeling. Doctor prescribed it due to Mom's aortic aneurysm. Said she didn't want the high cholesterol to inflate that spot, or something along those lines. So while I don't really want her taking Crestor or a statin, I don't want to run the risk of making the AAA/aneurysm worse. What would you do? I'm researching ways to lower cholesterol more naturally but also seeing a lot saying that high cholesterol ISN'T bad, so I don't know what to think.
I tell you, this last month has been hell. I've been an anxious wreck the entire time.
My Mom had her doctor's appointment to check on her BP yesterday. Just got the results today, and everything is good! I started bawling on the spot. She has high cholesterol so we'll be working on that as well, but the doctor was very concerned about my Mom's BP possibly having lead to some organ damage or severe risk of stroke or heart attack. That had me in knots waiting on the results but thank God everything was fine. We'll be getting Ivermectin as soon as it's financially feasible.
Her BP was high again, but it's all her anxiety. When she's not anxious, she's perfectly fine and the doctor even admitted that she looks great, like she has no issues. It's just the act of getting her blood pressure taken that freaks her out, and it has since I was a kid.
So sincerely thank all of you for your prayers. I can't overstate how much they meant to both of us and how much your kindness reassured us while we were as stressed out as possible. We're unusually close, so it's been...challenging on me to say the least.
Which brings me to how this brought me closer to God.
I grew up not believing in God, but I was also conflating religion with God. I don't particularly agree with religion. So much corruption and taking advantage of people. Not saying all like this, but this has been my experience. And growing up very poor with a bottomless pit of anxiety didn't help. It felt so unfair, like God just didn't care about us or our suffering, and that's why bad things continuously happened to us and would never let us better our lives.
I finally awakened to God (only God, not the movement) in 2019 due to some horrible life events that He saved me from. It was the only other time I've been stressed to my absolute max to the point of waking up with a nosebleed. I was escaping an abusive spouse, losing my home, my parents and I were about to be homeless, and God saved us from that. It could only have come to be through a miracle and it worked out beautifully. This is why you might see me on here freaking out over this movement and my fears that the financially collapse will cause us to lose our home. God gave us this home, it's perfect for us, and I want us to stay here.
So my Mom and I are big on asking God for signs. My Mom had two of her signs, ones that weren't at all likely to occur on their own, happen. I had two as well. Too unique to be coincidence. I felt in my heart that he was directly communicating to me that it would all be okay, and though it was hard to believe that completely, it was true.
God has answered our prayers, Mom is healthy, we can finally calm down, and I can't even express the relief and gratitude I feel right now. Been crying off and on all day as I come down from the giant amounts of stress.
God really is amazing, and so are all of you kind people. :D
And also, for anyone that's interested, not a word was spoken to us about Covid or the vaccine. We were required to wear masks but we kept them under our noses and a few doctors were walking around without them.
My husband, a survivor of ten strokes in just three months, got that way thru atherosclerosis and clotting (no vax) after years of high anxiety and high BP as well as type 2 diabetes. The main struggle in his recovery has been the insane BP. He's a car guy. Was a metal fabricator and mechanic. Builds 4×4s from the ground up. Now he's left with dementia, about 50% situational amnesia, and aphasia. He's basically bed and couch bound now. So TV is his only activity. Recently figured out the only things that seem to bring down his BP to a manageable level, including heartbreaking number of meds, is tuning in to car shows, racing stuff, and classic rock music. Take his BP during the sound of music, it's thru the roof. Take it during fast and the furious, it's normal again. Needless to say, our TV burns alot of time on Nascar lol It's whatever the person's happy place is. Their zone to peace. His is cars.
Oh my gosh I'm so sorry for everything your poor husband has been through. Mom's been trying for years to find what really calms her down and we're just not sure what it is, but we keep looking. It doesn't seem to be a TV show of any kind.
I'm glad your husband was able to find something like that though. I'm praying for you both to have great health.
Just find what her deep interests are. Like maybe way back to childhood. That'll be what calms her down. We're all just children inside, and we each have our own little sweet spot we walked away from when we became "responsible adults".
My mother had high bp and she listen to audio Bible and it has helped calm and put things into perspective. Might help you both
Thank you! She really loves listening to X-22 and things like that. We'll find what calms her most and take it then to see how different it is. :]
When I flat out refused to even listen to my dr about taking a Statin for my cholesterol she asked if I had heard of Red Yeast Rice. This is what I am taking now, I was told that, Red Yeast Rice is the natural supplement that has been used for ever and what scientists are making the Statins from. Base is using Red Yeast Rice then manipulating it in lab to create much stronger effects for combating cholesterol. Red Yeast rice does have some of the same downfalls as Statins(you wouldn't want to over do it with em) and it is a weaker form of medication, you can buy it off shelf. Just something to look into on that front. Calming down is not as easy as it seems it should be when you got thoughts and fears swirling around in your mind all the time, self-meditation and realizing true faith in the lord's plan takes a lot off my shoulders at times of need.
I was prescribed a statin some years ago because my PCP wanted me to hit some mythical number he liked. I began to have the typical spectrum of statin adverse reactions, muscle aches, joint pain, etc. one evening I sat in my car weeping because it all hurt so that I didn’t want to move to get out of the car. I resolved right then to stop taking the statins. I felt better within days. I later discussed this with my sister, a molecular biologist and executive scientist with a big pharmaceutical company. She told me that there were no successful studies linking cholesterol levels with heart disease, despite the propaganda and it was possible I was incurring liver damage, again citing clinical research. I told the doc I had stopped the statin and I wouldn’t be starting again. He ask me to try red yeast rice. I did but the symptoms returned after a few days. Further research revealed that the active in RRY is a natural analog of the active in statins.
Just an anecdote but there it is.
Yup, as said.. it is the base of what they use for statins, statins are just manipulated to be stronger pretty much. Ty for your reply on this, 100 %
Thank you so much for the advice. I did some research on the red yeast rice and you're right, it does sound fairly dangerous, mostly in regards to liver, muscles, and possibly kidneys. It makes me not want her to not take it but at least it didn't say anything about dementia.
The only reason her cholesterol is a concern is because of her AAA and the possibility of high cholesterol causing blood to pool in the AAA and clot. The AAA being out of the picture would make it a lot easier. We could lower the cholesterol more slowly through diet alone.
I have high cholesterol but refuse statins as I've heard some bad things so I've started taking garlique. I don't know if it's made a difference but it can't hurt. Also fish oil is a good natural supplement but research on it because there is information that some may contain mercury due to levels in the fish. Also good to hear all is well with you and your mom.❤️🥰
Yeah, I had a bad feeling as soon as I heard the statin was prescribed. Glad I looked into it. I don't trust it at all! I'll be damned if I have to watch my Mom get dementia or something.
Thank you so much for the suggestions! I've got both the garlique and fish oil written down to discuss with her doctor at the next appointment.
I take over the counter Cholestoff which is plant based and it has lowered my cholesterol. My husband tried it and it did not work, so he is on a statin. I blame the statin, for leg weakness and unstable ambulation which my husband experiences. He has lost weight and has gotten his blood sugar levels under control, so I am hopeful we might be able to stop the statin.
Thank you so much for the information. Praying that your husband will be able to come off of the statin soon, and congrats to him for his improvements too!
Have you had an issues with Cholestoff? I was reading reviewers and it seems to be kind of all over the place, including causing heart palpitations which my Mom already deals with now and then.
No, no problems so far and I have been taking it for about 5 years.
