Everyone around here tries to spin that Russia is actually accomplishing its goals and they don't need to occupy Kiev, Kharkiv, and Kherson anyway. The truth is though, Russia's military has been atrophied by heavy corruption and they're getting flossed by Ukraine.
Ukraine has been preparing for this since Russia annexed the Crimea in 2014. Since then they have been training and overhauling their military (with support from NATO). In contrast, Russia has only had some low intensity conflicts in the last couple decades and I don't think it has given them much experience on fighting a more determined enemy.
