How do you find this out?
I would imagine, like researching a family tree, the onus falls upon the individual. The other option is have someone do it for you which could cost out the wazoo.
yes...tracing becomes a bit of an obsession for self investigation and can be very expensive to have a professional genealogist do the work for you. I have all the links but my source materials are not to the standards required for lineage societies and so will continue to work on it. There are some really good resource places - I know that here in the DC area we have the DAR HQ and library, and the National Archives and Library of Congress. Those last two require access permissions. Also, Boston has the New England Historic and Genealogic Society, and the Cleveland Library is supposed to be very good also. Probably others but those are the ones I know of that will most likely impact my family tracing migrations.
My mother is in DAR. If you are interested in joining (DAR or SAR) they will help you do some of the genealogy work.
