Beautiful sunny and mild day, perfect for planting a plum tree and doing some gardening chores. Good to get out for a bit, was starting to go stir crazy.
Hope you all have a great day.
Covering up our plants, olive & fruit trees since we are expecting lows of 15-20 degrees from 12/22-25. Very unusual for Texas coast. Everyone keep your family warm & safe...that includes furbabies, too!
Wish I could cover up my fig tree, its too big. I planted it in a huge pot sunk into the ground in a vain attempt to control its size. It laughed at me; the roots skipped over the rim and escaped. I now have a monster.
We have one that my grandfather planted 85 years ago. It's the size of a double garage! We've never had a problem before and we have ice occasionally. Not sure how far north you are located but you could use straw, hay or pine needles around the base of your tree to protect the roots and you can buy very thick gauge plastic sheeting to put over your tree. The great thing is figs are very resilient. Good luck!
Its not the roots that worry be but the fruit. Frosts can damage them.
