And which states were trying to leave the union? The southern states. The same states that were part of the southern democrats. The same ones wanting slavery mandated in all states. The same ones you claim only wanted to keep states rights.
Well, from what I've read, they were promoting the idea that the New States Chose whether they had Slavery or Not, and from what I am sure of, they would have completely abandoned it, except for the Railroads, those bastards under Grant really put a screwing to their workers, and especially the Chinese Slaves....
