Lo tech here
Why are videos so often mirror images
Cell phones have two cameras - one facing away from you, and one facing toward you. (For 'away' shots and for 'selfie' shots.)
When you take a picture (or video) in 'selfie' mode, you are watching yourself on the screen. The phone automatically mirror images the video so that it matches what you see in a normal mirror (note the term 'mirror image'). If it didn't do that, it would be very disorienting.
I have a Samsung S21 and under camera settings it has an option to save selfies flipped.
Thanks, that makes sense
I'd have thought software would exist that could flip the image to the correct orientation if desired, so everyone doesn't look like they're wearing backward T-shirt slogans and driving in Britain :p
The software exists - in fact, most phones probably have a simple option to 'flip it back' -- but people skip the step. Perhaps they enjoy driving in Britain. :)
