I was born in 1954. The house we grew up in had no central heating only a fireplace in the front room. My mother kept our four burner stove on from six in the morning when we woke up until 10 o’clock in the morning when my baby brother woke up. She also had the stove on in the winter time from 5 o’clock in the evening until we went to bed at night the rest of the time we had a huge fire Of rolled up newspapers that my mom made into “fire logs”. We survived fine all 5 of us. We lived in Los Angeles where it barely got down to 60*, but my mom had polio as a child in her legs and was constantly cold. I also warm up my kitchen with my gas burners on in the winter sometimes cause I’m in CO and we are sometimes at -10! Once again, all fine!
