You have to be really careful about having a propane tank in the house

When I lived in a more rural area, I had a large propane tank outside that fed my kitchen and my heating unit so I didn't have to rely on electric everything in my home.

A propane company installed a meter on the tank and they charged me monthly for whatever was used, just as you would be with normal NG service. When the tank got down to about 30% the company would refill the tank.

I may have misunderstood. I thought we were talking about a propane tank in the home not running a line from. Propane tank to your home.
