I suspect you have never been in this type of situation.
You might think this is barbaric but at the same time you are also very capable of doing the same and much worse. What should be expected of us is to understand this and know that war is very messy.
That is what this is though, it is war and people will be killed.
They probably thought it was one of their guys in the confusion. They are all Slavic people from that region. Probably use the same acents and the guy probably looked like a guy they grew up with.
Neither of those two looked like they were trying to fight to be honest. The one on the right had his gun resting and point upwards when the attacker grabbed hold of it, and the guy on the left dropped his gun pretty quickly.
If the guy on the left had put his hands on his head he might have lived.
Rewatch the video the guy on the left was holding onto the stock of his weapon and the other guy had his weapon between the two Ukrainians he did reach towards it.
Let’s be honest they were enemy combatants in an active war zone. They could have been eliminated without asking for their surrender
When you are in a surrender situation, ANY weapon in your hands becomes red-hot radioactive and you must cast it AWAY. (If they were your guys, no harm done. If they were Russian...well, now we know.)
The guy on the right was resisting having his gun taken away, but the guy on the left had dropped his and had both hands empty.
When the soldier opened fire on the guy on the right (tricky situation) he drilled them both.
I feel sorry for these poor fuckers - they barely look trained.
I mean… what do people expect? This is a war.
I expect full quarter to be given to those who are surrendering. Neither of those soldiers were a threat at that point.

Ultimate FAFO
I don't want one more tax dollar to perpetuate this.
I didn't see any resistance myself. Looked to me like they were giving up.
not fast enough
All is fare in love and war! I have seen worst in a divorce.
Told to surrender but no they wanna fight

The guy on the left was putting his hands too close to the barrel of the gun, in a split second he could have grabbed it.
