It all started when they cucked after the 2004-05 lockout and legalized the two-line pass because fuck defense.

You will probably want to kill me ... I was a big NJ Devils fan ... IIRC they were the reason the NHL eliminated the neutral zone trap via the two line pass change ... though after re-reading your post, you seem to agree :-) . Sorry, long day :-).
