Well, I have a good ear for voices. More than once, I've been able to recognize someone's voice on the phone that I hadn't talked to in 10 or 20 years with them simply saying my name.
To my ears, this is genuine.
His breathing, his pausing, his phraseology - all a match.
Can't argue with you there, it's a match to my ears/brain as well. I guess I'm left asking why these two guys seem to be the only people on earth with this clip (hasn't seemed to surface elsewhere to my knowledge). Sure 'unnamed sources' is dubious, but afaik they don't even give that...or some place on the Net where they found it.

If it's fake, it's really well faked. There's no red flags that make me think it's fake.

On the other hand, if secret service or a hacker was eavesdropping, no way would they reveal their identity.

Could be. I've heard a few audio deepfakes - they're nearly indiscernible from the real McCoy to my ears.
Add a telephone filter and any subtle differences you might observe become inaudible.

Sounds just like those fake rap videos they make where you can choose drake voice or another rapper.
After every word or so the audio cuts offf and drops off a cliff like they’ve all been patched together.
The voice comes in LOUD CRISP and CLEAR doesn’t sound like real voice, sounds like a generator that’s been patched together.
Seems like they put some shitty filter ontop to make it sound like cellphone distortion.
Let it be real, let this come out as real, great. Just not seeing it.
