more and more lately i've been thinking of a book and drawing parallels. The US is supposed to be where warriors come from. Our gear is rapidly going missing, first in afghanistan and now almost continuously to ukraine. we would make great low tech mercenaries in a larger spacefaring society.

this pulls me down the sci fi rabbit hole, i always thought the racial hierarchy of the Brin uplift universe compelling. not desirable, but compelling. we're an oddity because we've been abandoned by our patron race to figure things out on our own.
