It is based on spending. It is one way that the rich will pay more taxes than the poor. I have nothing against honest rich people, but it is a very fair tax. The people who have little money to spend on extras will pay less taxes.
"It is based on spending. It is one way that the rich will pay more taxes than the poor."
Wrong, laddie. That's only true in absolute terms. Proportionately, this "fair" tax would take a bigger and bigger proportion of income as the amount of income decreases.
There is no way this can be rationalized. It's a flagrant steal, plain and simple.
If you and a guy who makes $250k more per year than you both buy a loaf of bread, why do you get to pay no tax and he have to pay 100% tax?
Thats patently unequal treatment under the law. You should both pay 20% combined for all levels of government and be done with it. If you spend nothing, the government gets nothing.
Most people are talking about the shadow economy where you pay billy to wash your car every week for $40, and then neither of you reports it to the IRS so billy doesnt have to pay taxes on it.
Its a government wet dream to be able to tax all of this, which is why they are desperate for you to venmo/whatever your money everywhere.

"Proportionate" taxation is a theft tactic.

...and for those with illegal, unreported income to actually pay taxes.
Honest question, what's illegal, unreported income to you?

What if a friend bought tickets to a concert/movie and you're just reimbursing them? All this shit is insane.
