One thing is for sure, Paul definitely knew his attacker or he wouldn't act so casual about the situation.
But.. that's my point. In his situation he had to act casual. If he didn't play it cool he could've only made it even worse.
Why didi he have to act casual? If you were getting attacked by an intruder would you act casual when the cops show up? No. You would scream for help. He acted casual because he knew the guy. Your logic doesn't add up, but mine does.
Consider that he was woken up at 2 am by an armed intruder who he couldn't escape nor fight his way past. He played it calm, kept the temperature down, the dude wasn't attacking him. Police show up at the door, he calmly approaches it and opens it, puts a hand on the hammer now that he's no longer looking at it, greets the officers. The dude gets agitated as he starts to lose control, via Paul's hand on the hammer, and explodes the way he did.
Neither of us knows definitely what happens, but this is what Occam's razor spells out to me.
Don't get me wrong, and to the person who thinks me shilly, I only have disdain for a man who uses his wife's position to enrich himself. I just don't think this is the avenue of attack.
This theory doesn't account for human nature and cognition. People see danger, they have a fight or flight response. They don't do the mental gymnastics you are talking about.
This not Occams razor. This is pseudo-intellectual bullshit razor from a neurotic nerd who has no real world experience.
Also consider he’d been drinking prior to the break in. I agree with you completely. Guy was there to kill nancy not Paul. Calmed him down saying he’s waiting for Nancy and won’t hurt him. Paul handled it well actually. Then the guy went for broke when he realized the gig was up. The murderer was only trying to stop a worse person than him and decided murder would be best. That was his mistake. We can’t solve this by murdering them. We have to use the law no matter how slow or unfair that is against the evil but these are the results.
I think you have some valid points. What do you think about the drink in his hand?
