I can't claim to know what's in them, but when planes come through and lay down a dozen perfectly spaced lines that spread out and form a 'cloud' layer on an otherwise clear sunny day, I believe that it isn't by accident. What I have heard described by military pilots is laying down a layer of what they call chaff that interferes with radar and the 2 phenomenons look comparable, although definitely not the same. Live/pass by near enough to airports to observe these a lot. Most of them do start and stop very sharply, even stop mid-line and restart. I point that out to folks and say, oh my gosh, the engines all stopped! Oh, wow, they restarted again without the plane falling at all, how lucky! Maybe it will be on the news... ha.

Each nanoparticle becomes a nexus around which water vapor can condense, et voila!, clouds which cool the Earth. And yes, dedicated spraying equipment on board.
