What's interesting is that arginine can trigger a cold sore blister in those already infected with the herpes virus. Does that mean some cancers are caused by certain viruses?
"Arginine is essential for the replication of herpes simplex virus. Omission of arginine from the culture medium did not affect the synthesis of viral DNA but prevented the formation of virions. Addition of arginine immediately stimulated protein synthesis which was followed by virus formation."
"Studies show that arginine, an amino acid found in many foods, may contribute to the spread of herpes. This is due to its ability to promote viral growth, which speeds up the body's natural ability to reproduce certain viruses, including HSV-1 and HSV-2"
As someone who gets cold sores since I was nine years old, this is 100% true. L Lysine fights them like nothing else and nuts/eggs will make them worse.
Yep, I avoid Arginine whenever I feel a cold sore coming on.
On the other hand Lysine will fight a cold sore like nothing else. The second I feel a tingle in my lip I immediately down 2,000mg of Lysine with some milk and stop eating Arginine heavy foods.
I get cold sores and take L-Arginine daily because I like to get a pump and the gym. Pump my muscles with fresh nutrients after I eat a ribeye steak. I don't get cold sores consistently maybe once every 6 months or longer sometimes. I do seem to get cold sores when the seasons change like when it started getting hot in the summer and cold in the winter. I think this is BS.

Had a close relative who kept her cold sores at bay by taking L Lysine and limiting high arginine foods.

I wonder if the same would apply for someone with shingles, since it and chicken pox are from a similar virus?

I take it daily, between 5-10 grams. My wife likes the "pump" it gives me... 🙂 just sayin
