What are we looking at?
A train derailer. Clif High was just saying in his 2/15 pod cast that a box of them with about 140 of them in it had been stolen somewhere on the east coast.
Yeah, I was just listening to that podcast, and realised what those yellow things are. So many questions. 140 went missing? There are boxes of these? Why do they make these? Who even buys them ?
I'm not sure of any of the specifics of them, but I had the same question about why they make them. The only thing that came to mind was they might need them in case of a run-a-way train.
We use them on tracks when repairing a track etc. to keep any unauthorized rail cars from entering. They can also be used for other things but it’s basically a lock out tag out maneuver if that makes sense.
