Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an intergral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on it's evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evoloving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
best -Chocolate chip. Homemade, ofcourse . worst - meringue
Homemade best = good buttery shortbread. Commercial packaged best= those cinnamon sugar Graham cookies they hand out on airplanes in single wrappers. Ill find the name in a minute. Biscoff cookies.
Best homemade: oatmeal chocolate chunk
Best store-bought: E.L. Fudge
Ever had a Paris Wafer? It's too sugar cookies sandwiching cream frosting basically. They're the crack cocaine of sugar cookies.
I agree cookies are way different from when we were kids. I do not bother with commercial cookies anymore, assuming it is all gmo beet grown sugar and gmo corn syrup. Back in the day, sugar was grown from sugar cane. So the chemistry of sugar has changed dramatically, which of course alters the finished product.
Plus consider the fact even regular commercial wheat is harvested with roundup as a dessicant.
I was reading a cookbook from the 80's the other day, and actually felt nostalgic, like ingredients were so much purer then I used to make the recipes. (with things like using corn oil or corn syrup, which i wouldn't go near now with a 10 foot pole...)
Girl Scout cookies are nasty. I bought some last year from a woman at work. Thought it would be like cookie heaven having a bunch of different types to try. You’re right-they have changed. We used to get them sent to us in the mil in care packages and they used to be good. So, I spent a fortune on waxy, flavorless, fake turds. Never again. She owed me a box of sold out something-or-others but I never even asked her for them because the whole thing was a fail. I was actually cookie- traumatized for a while. I gave some to the crows and they didn’t even take them all.
Still pissed off about it.
Best imho is chocolate with chocolate chunks. Homemade kind. Worst- no cookie at all.
