Homeopathic and Essential Oils Questions
🧐 Research Wanted 🤔
Does anyone have a trusted source for quality oils? And any other suggestions for a basic starter set of healing oils? I’ve been reading about some great benefits of Oregano Oil among other things. Initially I’m interested in treating Strep Throat and other illnesses that are usually treated with antibiotics. Thanks for your help!
I had strep a few years ago and I refused to go to the doctor for it. I did a bit of research and found that making cayenne tea helps tremendously. My strep was gone within 2 days.
Hot water, as much ground cayenne pepper as you can handle, and honey to take away some of the raw taste of the cayenne. Gargle with it, drink the whole cup. Repeat until your symptoms go away. I drank it like it was going out of style, but if you don't like too much heat, it may take a little longer for your strep to disappear.
No essential oils involved, but thought you might like to keep it in the medicine cabinet.
I use a lot of herbal remedies, teas and home remedies. Never took the kids to doctor for sore throats, ear aches or really much of anything...there are just way too many successful remedies to choose from. The info is all out there ...you just have to know where to look...
Agree! Theere is so much available in the plant world. And their cells are sos similar to ours, it stands to reason that they help us so much!!! Its a horrible shame that big pharma has stolen their knowledge from us.
I think the herbal literature/pharmacopeia and home remedies weren't affected as much by regulation as were naturapaths or perhaps homeopaths (at least back when antibiotics came on the scene). The only herb they took off the market that I miss is ephedra...on the other hand, they shut down (and killed) many good alternative doctors. Many herbs that have been banned are available homeopathically. I have a collection of effective home/folk remedies that I have collected over the years...and I had 5 kids to experiment on...so I know what works...it was always fun finding an effective cure, the simpler the better. I've been doing this for over 50 years...
This reminds me of my son. When he was about 10 he was getting sick and I told him to eat a garlic Clove. I didn't think he'd do it but he did. He never got sick. And he still does it now when he feels a big coming on. He'll be 25 in April.
I've never heard of cayenne for sore throat but I have heard of it for ulcers and have seen it work for that for my brother-in -law. I'll be using it for sore throat from now on, thank you for the advice!!
Learn more regarding Cayenne...

Ooh, thank you for this, I will do so!
Great to know! Thanks!
We've used Doterra for years, for about 10 years. We use the crap outa them. Oregano has helped us avoid antibiotics, we use orange, lime, peppermint, lavender, frankincense, tea tree and other. I could tell you all kinds of stories. They have been a huge benefit to us. PS: We are in early 60's, my wife has had zero antibiotics since she started and I have been on twice, both for ear / sinus, in 10 years. Oregano and shit tons of C from differing sources.
They do seem good. Peppermint rubbed on temples for headaches. I love their immunity beadlets (forget the name)
Raise my hand for doTerra also.
Just please make sure that you don't buy a cheaper version on Amazon. Please buy from a friend or someone you know trustworthy.
Doterra is based people over profit. Some folks will take advantage of that by aldulterating the oils. You want to make sure you are getting 100% pure, which is what doTerra prides itself on. If you dont know an independent distributor, I am here. Not trying to sell, I just don't want anyone to be taken advantage of.
Editing to add my own experiences with essential oils! : I've used multiple oils for emotional reasons mostly but also to prevent/combat sickness. I love Blue Tansy for fighting procrastination. I love Melissa and Frankincense and Wildo Orange for fighting depression. I can't even tell you how some oils have helped me with digestion. When I'm overwhelmed Balance has saved my sanity.. And a blend called Zendocrine makes me wake up in a good mood when I roll it on my feet at night.
There's so many more.
I have been using doTERRA oils for years.
Awesome! Thanks so much!
I have used the essential oils from Mountain Rose Herbs (https://mountainroseherbs.com/) for many years. I have never been disappointed in the quality of their products. They are my go-to vendor.
Good info. Thank you
I use essential oils and homeopathics so I will share what info I have.
In terms of places to buy essential oils:
Healthy Traditions sells Florihana Oils which are made in France. This site is run by Patriot Brian Shilhavy who has been involved with and written books on medical kidnapping. I buy my virgin coconut oil from the Phillipines here..they sell MANY items...including David Stewart books on EO's...interesting site...
Pacific Institute of Aromatherapy run by Dr. Kurt Schnaubelt PhD. (Chemistry)...they sell Swiss Aromatics and offer classes and degrees in aromatherapy. Scbaubelt has written many defintive books on aromatherapy...interesting site...
Plant Therapy is a great site...Robert Tisserand consults and formulates for them...he wrote the definitive book on essential oil safety...the oils are reasonably priced and I believe they have free shipping. Great place to buy kits.
Tisserand also runs Robert Tisserand Institute...which has classes as well as info on EO safety and other info...great site...
I personally use Young Living generally, but buy many different brands in addition.
My primary resource book is "Evidence Based Essential Oil Therapy" by Dr. Scott A. Johnson...which is a complete resource for EO safety, treatment from pregnancy, babies to adults for many, many conditions and include topical and internal remedies...built in safety info...wonderful book...
I also use a lot of NOW EO's for diffusing or external use because I like their in house testing of raw materials before and after processing. Good company in my opinion. Reasonably priced.
Also if you are interested in oregano check out Oreganol which is liquid or encapsulated oregano which is formulated for children and adults. Find at Swanson or Vitamin Shoppe online...or any vitamin/herb store...
Essential oil safety knowledge is of the UTMOST importance if you are going to use EO's. I make some of my own blends and pretty much use this as one of my major healing protocols. I also take oils internally in capsules (per Dr. Johnson)...
As far as homeopathics...I have used them for over 40 years. Good beginner books are by Dana Ulman...you definitely need to learn how to use them. I made my own kit and have bought many single remedies and blends since then (liquids/pellets/tablets). Kits are available online...I would start with a 30X kit of 20-30 remedies. There is just so much knowledge you need to acquire about homeopathics..I have a Materia Medica that is the ultimate resource book but I have many various books on homeopathics that are useful. You can buy blends online for specific conditions..ie. sore throat. Can be found at Swanson, Vitamin Shoppe other herb stores...very excellent alternative treatment...
Hope this is helpful...the knowledge is vast...tried to hit the high points...
Use Healthy Traditions for coconut oil. Will check out their other products.
Perfect. Thank you for all of this information!
Thank you!!
I agree. I like them too
We have used the Plant Therapy brand for years. Buy direct from their website, not Amazon.
Great thank you
I grow and make my own.
DoTerra and Young Living are MLM model businesses. I have tried both companies and found the oils to be good quality, but somewhat expensive. Mountain Rose Herbs are good, and I believe still affiliated with Rosemary Gladstar who has written some really helpful herbalism books. Downside for me is that their shipping is very slow. Mostly, I buy oils from Rocky Mountain Oils, I have been happy with the quality, price, shipping and customer service.
I am not a fan of MLM...I use YL...but purchase as much as I can elsewhere...
Oregano is so easy to grow and it spreads and comes back every spring here in Tennessee. I make infused Oregano oil using olive oil and fresh Oregano. I use it to cook almost everything and add dried Oregano in the winter.
