That is exactly the sort of thing someone who wants to make a bioweapon would do. Take a biologic (parasite) that knows how to enter in to the human body and cause mayhem (e.g. herpes, which is most likely a biologic, not a "virus") and put a payload on it of your own concoction (lipid nanoparticles, who the fuck knows). Voilà. Bioweapon.

When we finally get to the bottom of this, the bioweapon will be connected to a parasite that can cause herpes, cancer, and/or malaria. That is my bet.
