Big essay regarding the situation, excuse me in advance
2 trains (1 freight and 1 passenger) collided 5 days ago because the station master did not inform/change the railways properly leading to the crash.
The station master is an ass kisser of the ruling party, he used to work at a train station as a simple worker moving the bags etc, a few years later (when the ruling party was the same one as today, New Democracy) he was moved to the Ministry of Education as a librarian (a post where only people with good connections can go)
Soon we are going to have elections (they should be announced at worst case scenario in 2 months) and because he was working in the Ministry and soon that party would not rule they moved him out of it as a station master. Huge wage for Greece's standards (2.500 when the average wage is 650) with minimal training.
The accident was literally caused 5 days after he took over that station.
Obviously such a thing should not happen like that and so easily, there should be failsafes for any occasion e.g. human mistake, terrorism, health issue like stroke etc.
There were not however because the Goverment bought such systems back in 2000 and they were never implemented since then. The workers union has been talking about it non-stop for years to no avail. They even talked about it recently in Feb 2th where the Minister of Transportation disagreed in every aspect, that things are safe yada yada.
There are around 55 dead and 57 missing (which let's be real, are dead.They just have not found any body parts yet.)
Sorry for the long essay had to give some background information tho because i'm curious about some issues regarding this matter.
The timing of it was perfect, the President was planning to go on an exhibition in Thessaloniki (2nd biggest city) the next day after the incident (1st of May) with the main subject "the success of our railways/remote control of railways"
Around 1 week later he was ready to announce the upcoming elections (which date has been leaked for weeks now, 9th of April)
Obviously after this whole fiesta he announced that he won't announce the elections soon (verifying the leaks essentially that he would announce it soon), the exhibition did not happen too.
This crash is getting covered non-stop for the past 5 days 24/24 and we still do not know with what stuff was the freight train loaded with, it is important because there were big explosions during the crash which... is not normal.
I am not sure if this divine justice since God works in mysterious ways or its planted somehow especially when you consider the tremendous earthquake which happened in Turkey a few days ago when they also have elections pretty soon. I don't believe in coincidences especially that many, something is going on in the background.

There was a protest by students in Rethymno on Saturday. I couldn't tell what they were shouting but it was probably about the crash that massacred so many students in Tempi.

The one I went to in D.C. 3 weeks ago to protest funding Ukraine only had like 1500 people show up.
