So let me get this right, a MQ-9 has a cruising speed of about 190 mph, That SU-27 was approaching this lead sled of a drone with no flaps down or speed break extended, yet it passed over the drone dumping fuel with not even a high nose angle to keep it from just falling out of the sky at that slow speed? For the SU-27 to come close to the drone without just flying past it at high speed it would need full flaps and speed break with a nose up angle because the SU-27 at 190 mph is on the razors edge of departing flight. I'm calling total BS with this video.
The Russian jet could have approached from the drone's front sector. It wasn't necessarily an approach from astern; this would obviate speed criticality.
Approaching from the front would have made the closure speed that much faster, and hitting the fan on the back of the drone would be a death sentence for the SU-27 because it would have been a total midair collision.
You sound like you are well versed fren. Tell me, how far away from the shore do you think this incident supposedly occurred? Land can be seen in the video. My understanding is that it was close to Crimea - but how close? US is claiming they were in international waters. All Russia is saying is that it was too close. Given what has taken place in Crimea, it does not surprise me that the Russians are not happy with us nosing around so close to their military installations.
Thanks, and I agree. Russia has been very restrained and measured in their responses. However, this is not unusual. Everybody is spying on everyone else at any given moment. Crap is bound to happen once in awhile.

SU-27 stall speed is around 125mph. The SU-27 is coming from the rear, so its probably going maybe around 350mph (assuming MQ-9 is going 200mph).
The video may be BS, but I don't think this reason is conclusive.

seems like it was sweeping in as an arc to the drone's tangential path.

It looked like it might have been around 20 miles from Crimea. That's enough for Russia to shoot it down.

I think I heard a news blip that it was 70 miles from land. US propaganda most likely. Video does look suspect.
