Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evoloving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
If you want to lose weight then train your body to do intermittent fasting. I don't even work out and I'm losing about a pound a day. Just be careful you don't collapse or something. I eat every night around 7 and I eat what I want for four hours. Also quit fast food and sugary drinks. And the key is to fast again and eat the same time every night. I think most people fast for 16 hours or so instead of my 20. Do it, you won't regret it.
It works. I've been doing this (with some breaks in the discipline) ever since my second knee replacement surgery, when I saw a sticker on my surgical folder saying I was pre-diabetic. No longer pre-diabetic, have lost 57 lbs without any significant exercise other than rehab for my knee. I hit a plateau; a 36 hour fast (not difficult) re-started the weight loss. My daily fast is more like 16 hours which you stated is what most do. Cutting out the sugar and snacks has eliminated most all of my hungry cravings and made any which happen to be more easily ignored.
That’s great to hear! Good for you! It’s a lifestyle change, for sure. I stopped eating breakfast and just eat at noon and 6. It has helped a lot. Initially, I was starving but that only lasted a few days. Now I couldn’t eat in the morning if I wanted to. And instead of juice I use sugar free gator.
I'm pretty sure quitting sugary drinks is just a good thing in general. I used to constantly have stuff like sprite daily, but swapped over to low-sugar fruit juice and zero-sugar gatorade. In the past 2 years, I've never had to use an alarm clock and have way more energy.
I do 23:01. (Actually more 23.5:00.5)
Wild animals eat once a day, sometime less.
I prefer keeping it as daily routine, like prayer.
I easily did a 2 day fast when I was in the hospital, 2 years ago, but it’s actually because I would not eat that industrial crap they kept bringing me.
I also remember a transatlantic flight years ago: The staff was so afraid I’d collapse because I refused their trays, they offered me anything I’d eat, so I spent the night eating bits of Swiss butter and sipping Ticino Merlot wine (it was a Swiss flight) whilst reading that fabulous book: Symmetry: A Journey into the Patterns of Nature by Marcus du Sautoy.
Just keep in mind this Frank Zappa Wisdom:
Wasn’t Zappa talking about boobs?
