Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evoloving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
AHA - I was waiting. See comment in Yesterdays General Chat
I haven't had Scotch in a damn age. Was doing bourbon for a good while - esp as scotch has generally gone through the roof. Well I was in the Mood this evening and everything is indeed nuts - Mac 12 for 80 BUCKS? Aaargh. Yet, regular 10-y Glenmorangie is still $35. I'm like uh how bad could they have fucked this up?
Uh, it's great, still the best "lower tier single malt" IMO
Why is this one this cheap, yet it's way better than the farty things (like regular Glenfiddich now at $50 wut?)? Even base Glinlivet (the MINIMUM acceptable and only because cocaine) is more expensive now IIRC/wtf!
Bourbon is not scotch, no matter how hard it tries
You may be bad ass, but probably not this bad ass
Love a good bourbon, but nothing compares to the peaty taste of scotch.
I've been sipping Glenlivet 12 yr double oaked. It was a Christmas gift, way beyond my budget I'd assume.
Ever had Caol Ila? https://scotchwhisky.com/whiskypedia/1829/caol-ila/
Same, I've been focused on bourbons for some time as the "good" tier is far more accessible. It's not that it's technically out of budget to go higher, just more on principle - like why did scotch decide to take off like this...it's like OPEC or something.
Caol Ila - nope, hadn't heard of it actually. I tend to prefer the highland ones/less smoky etc. Though the stuff about seafood is intriguing. I may well check it out just on that basis.
Edit: "Caol Ila is pronounced 'Cull Eela'." Ah er
kek. Yes 'Cull Eela' is very smoky so you may not like it.
Laphroaig is another favorite. Even the 10yr is good, though still a bit pricey for regular consumption.
Side note: how hilarious are the taste descriptions?
Mmmm.
Just found myself a nice smoked Jura for 30 bucks. I will try it after Lent.
Otherwise, if you like fine smoked whiskey, Connemara is one of my favorites.
Rodney....Dangerfield... "I got it tough...."
"I tell ya..."
