Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evoloving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
So Vietnamese lady friend fried up some quail yesterday evening (served with steamed rice* and a sauce) - first time I've had it. MMMMMM.
*Interestingly, as it turns out, there are circular mesh cloths that fit bamboo steamers for this purpose.
five spice quail?
BTW I think this got set back to "Top" instead of "New" for the comments.
Yeah, I have been fixing it like 3 times today. I think this time it sticking.
Not sure if it has a name or what. She fried it in peanut oil with some chopped onion thrown in too, and the sauce was some kind of brown stuff - I was not paying attention this time but probably some oyster, soy, maybe some fish sauce (I've discovered "Megachef" is really good Vietnamese FS flavor profile without the cost and supporting communists of Red Boat - it's made in Thailand but def Vietnamese style - though MC does have a stronger smell that some object to - wimps IMO).
She also made a salad with some kind of sesame oil dressing that was just to die for. I'm pretty fond of this gal I can tell you that.
that sounds good & reminds me I should get a steamer, love vegetables and rice.
Turns out my old crappy bamboo steamer doesn't seal quite well enough for this rice cooking method, so I finally have an excuse to upgrade it to a nicer one LOL.
If there's H-Marts where you are they have nice well-made ones.
thanks! we dont have stores like that so this will be fun to try & looks like i can order online. different gadgets/new recipes, keep me on track & something to look forward to.
