I was on a tour of a regional beer brand and the brew master said American beers lightened the flavor of their beers during WWII. This was because the men were overseas in the service and the women went to work in factories (ex. Rosie Riveter).. The beer brewers wanted to appeal to those women. They never changed back when the war ended and the servicemen came home.
