I concur. In my state, MD, the property tax keeps going up and up, it never stays the same or goes down (not even slightly to the down side). I complain and complain. I am told it is the county's fault, I call the county and they blame the State, how nice of both of them. Meanwhile citizens get no satisfactioin.
In PA, you pay property taxes in the spring to the County and the Township. In the summer, you get a second property tax bill for the school. (the biggest of the property taxes is for school).
Yes, my in laws lived in PA, they had a lot money to pay into the school tax, then my father-in-law got a medical disability retirement and his taxes stopped altogether--which was really nice for them.
the millage rate for school taxes comes from the superintendent and school board. and it's very high in PA in my opinion. I used to work at the assessment office and people threaten our lives because of property taxes. little do people know or understand, the assessment office only assess the property value, it's the township, county and schools that set the millage rates that create that actual tax amount.
