It's not just how the kids respond to HIM.

To me, it's always telling how HE responds to not only children, but to disaster victims, to people who are grieving, to the weak and infirm and injured.

Whatever else you can say about Donald Trump, I believe he's a decent human being. There are damn few people in public life who I feel that way about.

This is the key. Trump loves the common people. He never felt part of the elite circle because of this, and also is the reason many hated him long before he ran for presidency. Some of it is touched on in the "art of the deal"
