They lived extremely sheltered lives. With the parents going out of their way to protect them from stupidity and their bad choices. Not to mention the aforementioned consequences of said stupidity and bad choices.
When she sobers up. The hope is she’ll be sobbing. Whether from guilt or the fact she majorly fucked up her life is anyones guess though. If she’s not. Then that’s a sign she’s probably batshit.
Statistically speaking. The parents are usually Gen X and Early Millennials.
As a social worker, I help parents learn parenting skills. There is no discipline in place, and I have to get through to them that they aren’t friends with their children and you can’t reason with a 3-year-old. They buy them toys every week at the grocery store that are broken 10 minutes after getting home. And they tell me they don’t like to give consequences because it’s mean and will damage their self esteem. That’s what I saw this week alone … and it’s only Wednesday.
I am never more thankful that my parents were hard asses. And while they stopped me from doing anything exceptionally stupid or bad when I was younger. They were and still are for that matter more then happy to let me suffer the consequences of my stupidity and bad choices.

My kids got most of their spankings while they were in diapers. Kids crave discipline. Without it they are lost.
