I ran into the VP of my son’s high school his freshman year, 2014! My son told me they did not say the pledge. At said run in I asked, ‘Why does the HS not say the pledge? ‘. His response was, ‘It is the teacher’s choice.’ I said, ‘It most certainly is not. The ISBE says the Pledge is to be recited each day.’ The next day my son came home and told me he had to lead the pledge. He did so with pride!!

Makes me wonder if a rich person were to purchase an American flag for every classroom in a school district, would those flags be proudly displayed in the corner of every class room? I bet they would be flown if a bunch of pissed off taxpayers and parents were to show up at a school board meeting and have the opportunity to express their desire to fly the flags.

I once had a teacher who'd moved here from Pittsburgh.

She was way, way too big a Pittsburgh Steelers fan, with merch all over the walls. One even had a Miller Lite logo she had to cover up.

She even had an old tape with the original Steelers anthem. "Here we go, Steelers, here we go--Pittsburgh's goin' to the Super Bowl!"

And by original, I mean the one with the line "that one for the thumb," as in Super Bowl rings, because they only had four at the time.

I thought THAT was gaudy.

That was just sportsball.

This is infinitely worse.
