College has always been a scam. Grateful to God I dropped out
For certain degrees yes.
Experience trumps degrees. If you can find someone who sees potential in you that can mentor you, especially at a starting wage, you'll go further.
Yes, sometimes these mentorships do come with needing some form of additional education, but there are also a lot of things you can seek certification for without a degree.
I would say most degrees are a scam that costs more than they're worth, and are dragged down by unrelated discussion and lectures.
It helps to be respectful, enthusiastic and acquire a good work ethic. They don't carry you, but they do a lot of heavy lifting when you're trying to get involved in a job, no matter the age.
Biggest regret of my life is wasting 4 years at college and not working in construction for those 4 years.
Agreed. My sociology degree has left me jobless. I have never worked in a job that required it. Takes me forever to find jobs now. Esp now that I'm old (41) and not woke. I was told, just get that degree, that paper and youre good. Fucking bullshit.
It does work for a lot of people. But life's not fair and bad things happen to good people and vice versa. I'm glad you ended up overcoming what you regret and managing a fulfilling life anyway. But I know a lot of people that got degrees and then jobs in their chosen field. No, it doesn't happen for everyone. But I'm grabbing a masters to make 20k more and it will easily be worth it. Wife talked me into it after she pulled it off.
