Spinning on a track is not "almost died." "If you spin, both feet in" generally makes you just spin safely down the track.
That said, it's admittedly known as a damn tricky car. Interesting discussion here...including contradictory information - how is the second poster getting "20 to 30 degrees of yaw" if it has ABD (2nd to last post)? Yipes.
I get your point, but losing control at high speed on a super speedway is a roll of the dice, especially in convertible without a roll cage. Leno was going twice the speed of Walker.
The recent Leno 'accidents' made me more suspicious of his GT wreck.
