5.5 magnitude earthquake in northern California knocks out 911 dispatch line
A magnitude 5.5 earthquake in northern California knocked out a 911 dispatch line for minutes on Thursday. Only minor damage was reported following the tremor and an aftershock.
It's CA. Earthquakes mean it's Thursday. This was insignificant as the scope of such things sometimes go.
It's like saying "The Storm Is Coming" because there was a tornado in Oklahoma, or a hurricane in Florida.
In the past 12 months, there have only been three 5+ magnitude earthquakes in CA. Two of them occured in the past week. All 3 in 2023.
Must be earthquake season...
I have felt so many similar to this one. It was a nothingburger.
People who haven't lived in CA for most of their lives don't get it. Earthquakes are nothing, and they happen all the time. "All the time" doesn't actually mean all the time, but it is often enough that such an event is not notable in any way.
If it's once a year... meh. Who cares. It's nothing.
It's literally like getting uppity about a gust of wind in Oklahoma, or three gusts of wind in a few months...
Also, I think the "two of them in the past week" are just because one was an aftershock of the other. That is really just one earthquake.
Then why did it make the front page News?
Comms.
Slow news day? Distracting from not talking about more meaningful information? I have no idea.
I felt it. I've lived in CA a long time. I have felt numerous others similar. Seriously, it was nothing.
That’s what she said
It is the earthquake that will happen on the New Madrid Faultline that I am worried about.
I lived in Missouri for several years. The New Madrid Faultline bothered me more than tornadoes, even felt some minor tremors from it. If it goes active, it would be catastrophic.
Dutch Sinse on youtube has been fairly accurate with earthquake predictions, and occasionally mentions the New Madrid area as an area to watch.
But, it doesn't seem to store or build up energy. It just sits there, watching.
..... "It just sits there, watching." That's what it wants us to think.
I live on the edge of Western Kentucky. We live on top of a cave system which is one of the largest cave systems in the US. It leads all the way up to Mammoth Cave. I was told that when it hits, to put my head between my legs and kiss my butt goodbye because there is nowhere to run. We also have a lot of sinkholes in our state.
I didn’t notice it.
Those few remaining liquor bottles stood strong! Lol
The owners did it, going to use the insurance money to get the get out of California.
When I was a kid growing up in California we didn’t even get out of bed for a 5.5.
