Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evoloving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
When you're intermittent-fasting, how do you deal with your stomach growling?
There are times that I get SO hungry that my hands start shaking. I'm serious, it's like my body is begging me to eat something--anything.
I'm tempted to eat something that's very low-calorie like a dill-pickle spear, but a cursory reading of the "nutrition facts" tells me one is about 24 calories and no detectable nutritional value otherwise, so I hold off...but God, this feeling SUCKS.
How on Earth do others tolerate this?
And before anyone asks, yeah, I'm very much hydrated!
Take a couple of MCT oil or regular coconut oil. It will lower the stress and anxiety. You can also massage your hands and feet vigorously while the coconut oil does the trick.
I intermittent fast on 6-8 hours of eating with 16 or more hours of fasting. I pretty much eat whatever I want during the eating window and drink water the fasting time. I can truly say I have never had my stomach growl. My stomach has shrunk quite a bit and I very much enjoy my schedule...it suits me just fine but I am early 70's and just don't need all that much food. There are several different IF schedules you can follow so maybe you need to try a few to find out which one suits you. Good luck...check out Dr. Berg on IF schedules.
I second the broth and hard boiled eggs ideas, but I do best when I have a crunch like celery or such along with the soft things. It will pass, so keep looking forward.
Go buy yourself some boxed or canned Chicken or beef broth. Heat you a cup up in the microwave. It will fill you up and there is only 10 calories per cup of chicken broth and 15 calories per cup of beef.
It gets better. I noticed at first, the morning hunger was almost unbearable but that only lasted a few weeks. When I just couldn’t take it, I’d go for some almonds, low carb cheese or a hard boiled egg. Try that. I’ve been doing IF and keto for over a year and it’s no problem anymore unless I haven’t gotten a good night’s sleep. Then I’m starving. It’s ok to some days have a snack if you feel really horrible, but focus on very low carbs.
