Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evoloving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Nope, I have no clue how to use it. I don’t know what it does other than it being a math tool? I’ve been a little interested in learning how to use a slide rule. Not sure the value in that either, though.
Am I weird that I like old stuff? I always have. Real things rather than plastic.
I do not, but my son learned when he went to a Waldorf school for 2nd-4th grade. I stopped sending him because I found out , while they taught lots of New Testament and Old Testament lessons, they also had a very fixed way of teaching. It was fine to me that he also learned a little bit about other religions, he knew he was Christian. They taught a lot of good real life things, gardening, building, kids spent half their day outdoors.
Oddly enough my family was just talking about that last night at dinner, can't even recall how it came up. We might do it, if we can find one not made in China, lol. (One of us knows how to use a slide ruler, we want to cross-train)
No, I can not. And yes, I think it's worth learning, but I think everything is worth learning. Appreciate this thread a lot; It's getting closer to time to start homeschooling proper, and the thread's an inspiration.
Btw... I've been pretty busy myself, but it feels like you been GONE forever?! You just gonna slide back in all nonchalant? 😅
Missed you! ♥️
DO IT. Perfect time, more families transitioning now than ever before to free themselves and their kids from the indoctrination centers. Look at the HSLDA.org site ( homeschool legal defense assoc)- they have a great collection of materials for those exploring and wanting to start, including links to every state set of requirements.
It's amazing how much we missed out on in school, how much was just plain wrong, how much programming was in there... And now it's much worse.
